Mercury Transit Outreach

Squirrel Valley Observatory recently had the opportunity to provide a Mercury transit outreach event for Polk Central Elementary school. Although we battled off and on clouds most of the morning, students were able to view the event, and observe some solar details using a Baader white filtered 4″ triplet apochromatic refractor. They were also able to see alternate views of the transit via live stream feeds on two displays there onsite. We scheduled for 160 students and ended up with about 260! A very enjoyable day and the students asked some terrific questions.
